The Surgeon Blade A Diana Rivers Mystery Thriller The Diana Rivers Mysteries Book 3 edition by Faith Mortimer Literature Fiction eBooks
One of the many talents of a great mystery writer is being able to keep you guessing until the very end. A writer who creates the desire within the reader to keep turning pages. This is what Faith Mortimer has done with "The Surgeon's Blade." You will be surprised at the outcome as was I. A great read. None of the profanity nor lewdness so often inserted in other books, Faith Mortimer uses her talent to leave you with the knowledge of what transpired without having to hit you in the face, as it were, with the obvious. Besides, it's the mystery we are looking to solve. Faith Mortimer produces just that here, a mystery, entangled with love and a narcissistic surgeon under the spell of his own ego and perhaps something else.Product details

The Surgeon Blade A Diana Rivers Mystery Thriller The Diana Rivers Mysteries Book 3 edition by Faith Mortimer Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
A quick read but for most of the first half or so of the story is slow and drags on too much. Star deduction in my opinion.
I guessed who did it too early in the story which for me is not a good thing but also not a bad thing, as once I guessed I knew I would keep on reading to make sure I was correct ... and I was.
This is a stand alone book even if it does show as part of a series and I will be looking for more by this author.
The short stories in "The Bamboo Mirror" are fine, but they break no new ground, which is a shame because they are reasonably well-written, clear, and with some settings that would, and do on some level, draw in the reader. Six short stories, teasers for four novels, and links to other writers complete this slim anthology. The "Widow's Weeds" started to paint a strong picture of a place few frequent, but the thin mystery ends before we can be totally submerged in the place and culture and story. The same is true for the titled story. The supernatural element is thinly veiled and the depth of time and place not nearly as deep as could have been drawn to heighten the reading experience. We are left to wait for an ending that is somewhat spoon-fed while expecting the heroine of Faith's novels to do more in her coming-out story. Two story endings are broadcast, leaving little surprise; two story endings are subtly intriguing but not shocking; two endings are sharper ("The Cast Party" and "Making a Right"), forcing the reader to pay closer attention, but they still didn't knock me out of my seat.
This is an average entertaining read with stories suitable for a long coffee break and not likely to keep you up at night with nightmares. I applaud the interesting marketing technique to garner new readers with a short story anthology and some novel teasers. It seems like a good move. It allows someone to sample a writer's material on a broader scope. It's a bonus for readers. While I don't bemoan the money I spent on the book, I had hoped for something more. All the stories straddle the fence between 3's and 4's. The overall affect for me, a very positive 3.
Libby is working as a nurse in Southampton, outside of London. She felt that it was the perfect place to work because she would be by the water and could participate in her favorite hobby sailing. She has recently begun to date a doctor on the staff but per his request they are keeping their relationship a secret. One nasty, rainy day Libby and one of her best friends, Jem, a male nurse are set to be part of the crew for the doctor that she is secretly dating in a race. During the race, Libby is knocked overboard when their boat is hit and she suffers a head injury that leaves her with memory loss. When she wakes up, she finds that the doctor she is dating is sitting by her bedside saying that she is his fiance and that she should move in with him..... but it just doesn't ring true with Libby so she is trying to hold things off and take things slowly. As Libby is recovering she discovers that nurses are being attacked and one day it happens at her hospital. Libby is beginning to feel as though she is being watched and becomes very frightened. Just who are the people in her life that she can trust???
This was a good mystery that really kept you guessing right up to the end. I am perplexed that it is called a "Diana" mystery because I don't feel as though she figured into solving the case all that much. I felt that her part in this was poorly portrayed if she was supposed to have been the "sleuth". Other than that the book was a good one and I would read other books written by this author.

As many of my followers know, I love a good mystery and The Surgeon’s Blade falls into that category. Ms. Mortimer’s writing style has me going back to her library of written novels for enjoyment.
In this Diana Rivers mystery, Diana is the relative of one of the main characters, Robert. He becomes infatuated with Libby, a nurse, after rescuing her from a yachting accident on Nigel’s sailboat, as an air ambulance medic.
Before and after getting to know each other, nurses are disappearing and murdered in Southampton and London, United Kingdom. The nurses, sisters, all have something in common that is the key to unraveling the mystery of the police’s predicament in not solving the crime spree.
Libby’s on again, off again fiancé Nigel is a doctor who works at each of the cities and has a home in London where his ex-wife has reappeared to compete for Nigel’s affection. Libby’s relationship with Nigel never seemed to be real for her since the accident and she is about to call off the engagement.
This thriller takes off after the lead up Ms. Mortimer has woven with few clues left for the reader, but they are there. Diana consulting with Robert brings us to an ending that will keep you on the edge of your reading seat.
The storyline pace keeps you engaged throughout leading to a thrilling ending.
